apr 15th - 30th
15th April 2007
Breakie with the crew followed by a trip into town for a stroll and look around. It's a really nice town very much directed at tourists as the places is just full of holiday accommodation.
The boys went back to camp whilst the girls went hunting for some ugg boots for Rach - they found some but the shop was shut, oh well there's always tomorrow.
A relaxing arvo around camp playing footy etc.
In a joint effort Mike and Rach cooked a beautiful Thai Green Curry with fried rice for dinner before the weather turned.
We all spent the rest of the night in the bus playing 'Pass the Pigs' and watching Rove.
16th April 2007 - Happy 1st Birthday Charlie!!
Today we will all be going our separate ways again. Rach and Nath are heading up the coast towards NSW as they need to be in Sydney by 5th May as Rach is flying home for a friend’s wedding, whilst we're headed North of Melbourne. Said our goodbyes again and we had to back track towards Sale as there are limited roads going in that direction.
Stopped in Sale and finally Bec bit the bullet and got her hair done - she'd been stressing and procrastinating about it for month as she's had the same fantastic hair dresser and friend, Dani for the last 7 years. It was all done and whilst she walked out feeling about 10 years older due to the way it was styled (or lack of style) when she washed and blow dried it later that day it was all good.
Mike went and did the shopping and posted the presents whilst Bec was having her hair done and then it was time to set off again.
Headed for a camp in Noojee but when we got there we found that it had been closed down by the locals due to one single incident. Bit of a bummer as the place was lovely and it was also just about dark.
Moved on with caution as we never drive after dark due to the wild life. There were roos everywhere but luckily we made it to Poweltown 30kms down the road without hitting a thing.
It was late when we arrived so we just had dinner and turned in for the night.
17th April
Awoke in Poweltown and as there was nothing to do or see here we moved on early to Healsville.
Healsville was a lovely little town and after exercising the dogs in the local sports ground we walked through the streets of town. There are the most amazing colorful trees here which are dropping their leaves so it's a very pretty time of the year to visit. We had lunch in town before moving on to check out a camp site in Yea.
Arrived in Yea and went to the newsagent to buy a basic scrap book as Bec's decided that she doesn't want to ruin the beautiful engagement present from Em and Shan - she's going to practice with this one if she can find time in her hectic schedule!!
The camp site in Yea wasn't so much of a camp site but more just a rest bay close to the main road so we pushed on just up the road to Molesworth and found a nice sports ground which had a camp site on it. Really lovely spot on the river.
Today we decided that we are going to start a bit of a health kick and doing a bit of exercise so this arvo we began!! We ran around the massive oval 7 times before doing a lot of different exercises and stretches that Mike used to do with Lincoln his personal trainer. Bec struggled to contain her laughter as Mike kept telling her to 'Push it out'. Good fun but we're sure we'll feel it tomorrow!!
18th April
Woke up feeling a little stiff and sore so we decided to jump straight back on the horse and do it all again. We sure all the people at the camp thought we were mad as they'd only seen us doing this about 12 hours ago. Oh well!
After the health regime we had breakie and did some washing. We then hung the washing out and hung around until lunch time waiting for it to dry.
We then moved on to Seymour in the hope that it would be a nice town and that there might be something to do this arvo and somewhere to stay. When we got there it was "skanksville" so we quickly decided to move on.
We then moved on to Puckapunyal Army Base so that Mike could visit the tank museum. Bec was not very interested in spending 2 hours looking at tanks so she opted to stay in the bus and catch up on her emails. Mike really enjoyed it.
As you are not allowed to stay at the army base we moved on to Bendigo. We got there quite late so just went straight to the showground's and set up for the night.
19th April
Got up early this morning and exercised. Had breakie and went to the local information centre.
Found some great bus parking out the front of the info centre and found that there is quite a bit to see in Bendigo - we might have to stay another night. Sent our parents a telegram (the last place you can send a telegram from) and then got some info on the local attractions.
Took a quick look around the town and then headed just out of town to catch the old talking tram. This is a service run by the town using trams from the 1890's that take you on a tour around town highlighting major attractions and historical places. We jumped on and got off at the first stop 'Water Fountain' which due to the drought is filled every few days using waste water from the local ice works. We then had lunch at a funkie little cafe called GPO before doing a bit of shopping - Mike bought Bec's birthday present whilst Bec bought some weights.
Got back on the tram and continued its journey pasted the original pubs from the gold rush days, the town's original 1872 greenhouse, old oil factory and stopped at the original tram depot where they had about another 20 trams in various states of repair. After that we boarded and went back through town pasted more historical places and back to the bus.
Went back to the showground's and met a couple from QLD who had sold up and where traveling around in the most amazing Sunliner running a mobile sticker business. Mike had been meaning to get some stickers made for the back of the bus advertising his electronics expertise so he went over and organized for them to be done tonight and fitted in the morning.
Whilst we were preparing dinner we noticed the local homeless scab going through the bin looking for some dinner! Mike couldn't resist a photo!
20th April - Happy Birthday Bec - A Quarter of a Century!!
After the stickers where fitted on the back window Mike gave Bec her present - Grey Suede Boot, a very practical present for one traveling around AUS!! And then he took her out to breakfast in town. We had a lovely meal on the balcony of a great little cafe.
After that we walked down to the greenhouse and had a closer look before heading to Sacred Heart Cathedral - the most amazing Cathedral we'd each ever seen. Mike being not so religious wondered what Bec was doing when she walked into the Cathedral and blessed herself with the holy water. We spend a fair bit of time there just enjoying its grandness.
Mike had secret shopping duties for Bec's birthday meal so Bec relaxed with some shopping.
We then headed to Daylesford as we would be meeting Em and Shan here tomorrow for a day spa. Just outside of town there was a Belgium Chocolate Factory so we stopped in for a few birthday treats.
When we arrived in town we walked around the quaint streets and Bec bought herself a few more little treats. We then moved on to the Daylesford Lake and went for our run around it before doing a few more exercises.
It was then time for Bec to have a shower and kick back and relax with a Champagne and watch Mike cook up a delightful meal (what's new he does this every night), and finished the day with a massage.
A fantastic day for a fantastic girl!!

21st April
After breakfast at the lake we headed into town to meet Em and Shan. They arrived with a car full of gifts and cards from home which was lovely.
The boys then headed off to the golf course whilst Em treated Bec to a day spa for her birthday. Bec had a massage, facial and foot bath whilst Em had a deluxe facial - it was bliss and we both floated out of there.
By this stage the boys had just finished getting soaked on the golf course so it was time for lunch. The girls went to the tourist info to try and find a nice place for lunch and we were directed to the Farmers Arms. When we got there and found the place almost empty and after the waitress had to consult the bookings diary before offering us a table we knew that this was a classier establishment than we were looking for.
After being offered 'tap' water Shan being Shan challenged the next waiter on when their busiest time was and whether they where currently fully booked for lunch as the previous waitress had consulted the booking diary when there was clearly at least twenty free tables in the restaurant at 2pm. We think he knew we were trying to catch them out so he spun us some crap about being robotic and we all decided we'd leg it. So next time the wait-staff had their backs turned we legged it for the door with the girls in a fit of laughter and headed to a pub in town - not so classy but beautiful food and we weren't treated like second class citizens.
Em had organized a cake so we all sung Bec Happy Birthday.
It was then time to head back to Melbourne as the girls had a “ladies only” party to attend and the boys had playstation to play.
A very enjoyable night with our great friends.
22nd April
After waking at Em and Shan's we spent most of the day hanging out there as Em had work later that arvo. The boys had a few jobs to do around the house as next weekend its Shan's 30th birthday party here.
After Em went to work we said our good byes again until next weekend and headed for Rosebud/McCrae to have a few days with Todd, Sonya and baby Frazer. We arrived there late arvo so decided to hold off seeing the guys until tomorrow and spent the night down at the foreshore near the light house and yacht club.
23rd April
Rose early and did some exercise as we'd had a few days off. Great spot for it running along the foreshore, it's really beautiful here.
Took a drive through Rosebud and into Rye. Mike bought a Kite in Rye and we did some washing there too.
Headed back to McCrae in the arvo and saw Todd and Sonya for the first time in about 2 years. They are really well and now have an addition Frazer to their family and another one on the way. Frazer is so adorable so we spent most of this afternoon playing with him and catching up on things.
Had a beautiful Italian take away for dinner before retiring for the night
24th April
Got up early and went for a run. When we got back Sonya's mum had arrived for the day to look after little Frazer and Sonya was going to take us out and show us some of the sights.
After having breakie and getting ready we went to Arthur's Seat and enjoyed the view of the bay from 1000ft. unfortunately the camera batteries went flat so no photos :(
Todd finished up work early so we went back to the house and picked him up before heading back out and to Portsea to have lunch at the Portsea Pub. On the way there we visited Todd and Sonya's new block of land as well as some of the back beaches and a ritzy golf club. It really is beautiful down here and the weather has been fantastic. Lunch at the Portsea was fantastic but it soon came time to leave.
On the way back home we stopped at the shops and go some ingredients so the Mike could cook for Todd and Sonya.
A beautiful meal with great company. Spent the rest of the night seeing some of Todd and Sonya's home movies from their trip around Australia. A fairly different trip from ours as they spent most of their time off road so it was nice to see another way that it can be done.
25th April
ANZAC Day
After playing with Frazer and having breakie we went for a walk with Sonya, Frazer and the dogs. Another beautiful day down by the water so Frazer had a run around in the sand.
We headed out to Point Nepean National Park and hired bikes and road out to the Fort. It was about a 6 km ride before a 3kms walk right out to the point at the entry to the Port Phillip Bay. We had visited this exact spot on the other side of the Bay in Queenscliff so it great to come here too. There was so much to see and we spent a fair bit of time in the tunnels which were like mazes. A really enjoyable day.
Went back to Todd and Sonya's and cooked for them again as a thank you for having us.
Spent the night having a few good bye drinks and showed the guys our wedding photos.
26th April - Happy 30th Birthday Shan!!
Said a final good bye to Sonya and Frazer before enjoying our last drive and walk along the foreshore of Rosebud and Rye.
Headed for Melbourne and visited other areas on the peninsula such as Mount Martha and Mornington.
Spent the night at Aspendale on the water as it was a half way point back to Melbourne.
27th April
After waking at the beach we went exercising.
It was then off to Dick Smiths for some electrical supplies for Shan's party and then JB's to get Shan a voucher as he's decided he'd like a GPS like ours.
Picked up Mike's glasses from Toll in Port Melbourne before Mike dropped Bec off at the house. Em, Chris and Tony where off shopping so Bec had a shower and opened all the mail that had arrived. Mike went to High Point to get some birthday/party supplies.
When we all got home we went out to Damian and Libby's (Shan's bro and sister in law) for some fantastic home made pizzas. Damian and Libby have two lovely children so we also had fun playing with them.
We all had a fair few drinks and on the way home in the maxi taxi Em and Uncle Tony where giving air flight safety demonstrations. The taxi driver probably thought he was flying a plane and not driving a van. All good fun.
At home it was time for a few more wines and a bit of a sing song.
Another great night.
28th April - Happy Birthday Mum/Dawn!!
The big day has finally arrived Shan!
It was all hands on deck today setting up for the big party. There was Tony, Shan and Mike in control of the outside marquee, lighting, music and heating whilst the girls where inside sorting out decorations, cleaning, food and photos etc.
It was a great team effort and by 6pm when the family started arriving the place looked absolutely amazing as did we!
By 7pm Shan's mates where arriving and we were all on our way to having a fantastic night. A really great mix of people that all gelled really well.
By 3.30 Em and Bec where turning into pumpkins so it was time for bed. Shan and some of his closes mates however stayed up watching the cricket world cup until about 6am and crashed on the couch.
So much fun, we really are glad we hung around in Melbourne to help Shan Celebrate the big day.
29th April
Ouch, pass the panadol would you!! We got out of bed at about 1pm and headed into the house for a fry up. We all needed it but the boys probably didn't need the Baileys and Milk that Shan served up with it!!
Spent the arvo relaxing around the house and exchanging funny stories from the great night before.
Bec and the crew went looking at houses as Em and Shan are buying another place whilst Mike stayed home and veged.
Had some more grease (kebabs) for dinner and watched big brother.
It was now time to say good bye to Em, Shan, Chris and Tony for we don't know how long :( a bit sad but we're both excited about getting back out on the road and heading to another state for some new adventures.
30th April - Happy Birthday Pete!!
Left Melbourne this morning!
Took the M1 all the way to Sale and picked up Mike's new chair and a DVD burner as our old one has packed it in.
Went to the local showground's to camp for the night as Charlie has a hairdresser's appointment tomorrow morning.
Bec walked the dogs in the arvo whilst Mike received his first enquiry about work. Thanks to the stickers he has his first job tomorrow morning fixing an antenna on a motor home.
After breakfast at the lake we headed into town to meet Em and Shan. They arrived with a car full of gifts and cards from home which was lovely.
