Jun 1st - 14th
1st June
After walking the dogs around the oval we left for Newcastle again - we had to sort out our final plans for our Bali trip and get Bec a suitcase for her pending trip back to Perth to see her Mum and Dad.
After sorting everything out we headed to the foreshore for lunch again and decided we should head to a caravan park for the next couple of days o Bec could pack and we wouldn't be tempted to continue traveling as Bec fly's out on Monday and will be catching the train to Sydney from Newcastle.
We found a caravan park in a place called Raymond Terrace just north of Newcastle so we headed there. Set up camp in a nice site and settled in for dinner - we had a big couple of days ahead cleaning out the bus and packing up for Bec's trip.
2nd June
Mike decided to do some electrical rewiring for the hot water system and DVD player so he could make some more room under our dinette seats for storage - as he has been doing a bit of work he needs to keep a few more tools and supplies.
After Mike had sorted out the seats we started sorting out the storage under the bed. When we left we packed lots of things (mainly Bec's stuff like 8 pairs of high heels) that we realized we didn't need on the trip so we packed most of it for Bec to take back.
This involved taking everything out from under the bed sorting it out and packing it all back in! Sounds like an easy job but it took us nearly most of the day!
3rd June
Awoke a little late and continued our spring clean of the bus!
Tidied up all of our bookshelf and packed some books we had been lugging around and hadn't read. We decided we needed to make a permanent storage solution for between the front seats - up until now we have been using a cardboard box so Mike drew up some plans for a box so he can have the timber cut at Bunnings.
Bec scrubbed the floors and had a spring clean of the bathroom.
Bec then decided it would be a good idea to take a quick walk into town for some supplies. Mike insisted it was a long way into town but Bec said no its just up the road so Mike was forced to say "Yes Dear" and make the trek together into town well I'm sure Bec will now agree it wasn't just up the road - a trip made all the more enjoyable on the way back with three bags of shopping in the rain!

Made a very early start to the day as Bec needs to catch an 8 o'clock train from Newcastle to go to Perth for her surprise trip home to see her parents!
Dropped Bec at the station and said our goodbyes - I'm sure this will be a very weird week being apart after being together every day for the last 6 months! Waved goodbye to Bec and left to start doing some of my jobs!
Went to Bunnings to get timber cut for our new storage box only to find their saw had just broken down before I got there (This was to happen to me 3 times over the next 2 days!)
Went to travel agent and paid for our Bali tickets, then electronics shop to pick up parts for one of my jobs!
As I was going to head to my Grandparents house in Port Macquarie I decided to make a start on the trip and headed for a Lawn Bowls club in Pacific Palms as they let you camp out the back and I thought I might have a few beers whilst I was there - Perfect!
On arrival I found the council had put signs up stopping you from camping out the back of the club but I found a spot just around the corner that I could hide in so I parked in there and went into the Club for a drink - Very quite club but nice for a few beers!
Bec's Diary
Awoke very early (6.30am!!) and enjoyed a quick breakie with Mike before heading off to the train station. I'm a little bit apprehensive about today as I need to catch 2 trains to get me to Sydney Airport. I'm a big girl but from a small place like Perth where catching trains isn't safe!
Mike boarded me on the train (as my suitcase was so heavy) and we were rushed to say our final goodbyes as the train was about to depart. We hugged and kissed and told each other how much we'd miss one another before Mike left the train. He stood on the platform and we blew each other kisses before I watched his sad little face as the train pulled away. This would be a hard week probably more so for Mike as he'd be left alone whilst I get to enjoy our family and friends and their surprise at seeing me.
The train ride to Sydney was quite uneventful as I spent most of it with my head in a magazine or book. Just before the train pulled into the city I got chatting to a local girl who was going to the airport too (great company and someone to follow!) Within minutes I was pulling into Sydney Airport train station - the infrastructure and transport system is fantastic - Perth could take a few tips for sure.
Went and checked in and despite my apprehension about getting on the flight (as I'm on standby because my darling cousin Em has allowed me to use her staff travel) I was successful and my plan was all on track!!
Had an Ok flight for someone who had now been traveling for 10 hours and arrived safely in Perth to be greeted by my friend Tash and her Mum, Sue. These guys have been in on my plan since last week and have ensured that Mum will be home this arvo. So we left the airport and headed to pick up Danny (Sue's hubby) before going home.
When we arrived the crew went in before me and made sure that the gate was unlatched. I hid outside and waited for 5 minutes and then snuck in the back gate. Unfortunately Mum was putting the dog in the back garden at the time so she sprung me in the act. It was still a fantastic surprise and I don't think she could believe her eyes because she just froze and then started asking what was the matter and why was I home. I think she may have been worried about Mike but when I explained that I'd come to surprise her for her birthday she was so pleased and over the moon.
After the initial shock we talked more about the details and then she rang Dad and told him to come home because Sue and Danny had arrived. When he arrived home I hid in the hallway and when I could hear them all talking I walked out casually and said 'Hi Dad'. I thought Mum's reaction was extreme but Dad's was worse - in fact I was worried he might have a heart attack. I hugged him and he was limp and again asking why was I home. His next question was where was his son in law and when I explained that Mike was home looking after the bus and babies he was very disappointed that he couldn't hang out with Mike - Cheers Dad, what about me!!!
The rest of the night was full of catching up, laughs and a few drinks. Mum tucked me in.
Had the most amazing phone call today on the way home from the airport! It was Em and Shan and they where calling from Thailand to let me know that they got Engaged on Friday 1st June!! How exciting - congratulations guys you make a fantastic couple and will always be very happy together.

Left Pacific Palms early and headed to Forster as I had an optometrist appointment and wanted to get to Bunnings to have the timber cut for the storage box but you guessed it their saw had broken down yesterday!
Went for my optometrist's appointment and found as I had thought my vision has got worse and I need new glasses but they can't be made here and will take two weeks to make so I will have to wait for Queensland.
Had a look around Forster and went to tourist info centre to enquire about dive trips to Seal Rocks - a place where you can swim with Grey Nurse sharks in the wild! There are several dive shops to check out.
As I would pass through here on my way back to pick up Bec from Newcastle I decided to keep heading for my Grandparents house near Port Macquarie. As I was leaving town I spotted a Mitre 10 store that had a sign saying we cut timber panels so I dropped in to get the timber cut - But you guessed it their panel saw was also broken!! But luckily there was a kitchen shop over the road and they had cut a deal with him to do their cutting until their saw was fixed so finally I got my timber!
Found a rest area on the Pacific Highway to camp for the night before going to Port Macquarie.
Had a call from Em and the Big S tonight to tell me that the big fella had finally plucked up the courage and asked Em to Marry him! Very excited for them both, certainly put a smile on my face!
Bec's Diary
Awoke to Mum bringing me in a cuppa at 7am. Nice to see that some things don't change and Mums picking up where Mike left off yesterday morning! Mum said that she had a restless night because she just couldn't believe that I was here and had to pinch herself at 4am this morning just to make sure she wasn't dreaming.
Mum works until late on a Tuesday so I'm going to take advantage of that and visit my friend Lisa in Bunbury. Lisa and Nath are getting married in February and I'm lucky enough to be one of their bridesmaids so it will be fantastic to see them and catch up on all the wedding plans.
Picked up Dawn and Jeff's car from Tony and Bev's as they have been fantastic and offered it to me whilst I'm home as they're in Bali - lucky devils!
Drove down to Bunbury and got stuck behind a motor home doing 90kms in a 110kms - how ironic, couldn't resist calling Mike so I pulled over in Pinjarra and made the call.
Arrived in Bunbury and spent the day with Lisa and little Corey John who isn't so little anymore and is now crawling. Had a great day and left completely up to date on the pending wedding.
Mum wouldn't be home till about 7.30 so I stopped off in Rockingham on my way home to see my brother Pete, his wife Donna and my nephew and niece Eddie and Kristen. They were all so pleased to see me and I was definitely the flavor of the month with Ed and Kristen as they've not seen me in over 5 months.
After a quick visit it was time to head home for dinner and a catch up with Mum and Dad. Another enjoyable late night.

Mikes Diary
Spent the morning building the storage box. Turned out really well and solves the problem of where to store the ever important carton of beer!
Drove to Port Macquarie for a brief look around before heading inland to my grandparents house in Kings Creek. I have not seen them both for over 5 years so I was expecting them to have changed a heap but they hadn't they both looked exactly the same except that Nanny is now a blonde! Bobop (When I was younger for some reason I said Bobop instead of grandpop!) was exactly as Id remembered.
They have got a beautiful house in a semi rural area - they have only been here 9 months but their garden already looks like it has been established for years - they love their gardens. Spent the afternoon catching up on all the goings on for the last couple of years for us all.
Bobop and I went and got some Chinese for dinner. Very nice night - So good to catch up with them both!
Bec's Diary
Was supposed to get up and make Mum a cup of tea in bed but by 9am Mum got sick of waiting and brought one into me - oops.
We got ready and I took Mum to Vic Park to one of Mikes and my favorite restaurants, Bella Rossa for a late breakie/brunch. We had a breakfast and it was nice to be alone for the first time in ages.
Mum then tagged along to a doctor’s appointment in the city before we were due at my friend Dani's Salon to get our hair done.
Whilst we were in the city I thought I'd surprise Leanne by dropping in at her office - she knew I was in Perth but wasn't expecting to see me at work. We had a quick catch up before Mum and I had to head off. I'd see Leanne and Steve later in the week.
So off we went to Dan's and I convinced Mum to go with something quite different as it was her birthday. Mum had blonde foils and a new funky cut whilst I went brunette - Mike has the best of both worlds as I left as a blonde and will return as a brunette!! We where both really happy with our transformations.
It was then time to head home as we were going out for Indian for with Pete and his family. We had a great night and a fantastic meal - I don't usually fancy Indian but this was lovely.
Mum said she had the best birthday ever which was nice.

After my morning jog we spent the morning around the house chatting and watching some TV. Nanny and Bobop have foxtel so I had the chance to watch some good shows for once! Nanny likes watching the Airline disaster shows and so do I so it was a good match!
Went into Port Macquarie for a look around with them. Went to the shops and I bought some DVD's of books I had just read while Nanny went off to the women's shops and gardening section!
Had lunch in the food court are and then we took a drive through the town and out to the beaches. Bobop thought he spotted some sharks swimming in the waves but they turned out to be surfers! Drove along the coast - Some bad weather was rolling in so it made it hard to appreciate the beaches but it certainly is a nice stretch of coastline.
Went to Bunning to get some supplies for Bobop’s new Pergola he has built and while we were there the storm front rolled in and when we went out to the car we literally had to walk 20M but it was raining so hard by the time I reached the car I was soaked completely - amazing storm.
Spent the afternoon inside by the fire watching the storm and chatting before Bobop cooked us a lovely dinner.
Bec's Dairy
Got up early as I had lots to do today. Made some phone calls before heading off for my blood tests - you'd think by 25 I wouldn't still be scared of needles but I am so it was a bit of an ordeal.
It was then time to head to Como to visit one of my favorite shops - a hair dressers wholesale shop. Mum and I cleaned up and left with half the shop before heading to Carousel for lunch, a bit of shopping and hopefully a movie.
Had some physio this arvo and the running I've been doing lately has been effecting my hips and back. Enjoyed some down time with Mum at home before heading over to Leanne and Steve's for dinner.
Dinner was great and so lovely to catch up, they're both really well. Coco, their daughter (four legged) is adorable and could obviously since that I'm an animal person because she barely left my side all night. It was great she's such a cutie.

Enjoyed breakfast with Nanny and Bobop before starting to pack the bus - I am hoping to get a dive in with the Grey Nurse sharks on the way back to Newcastle to pick up Bec as she doesn't want to do the dive with me - Don't know why!
Packed up the bus and filled up with water. Said my goodbyes to Nanny and Bobop - I would be back in a couple of days with Bec as they haven't had a good chance to meet her - they had only met her separately on trips back to Perth.
Left Kings Creek and headed back into Port Macquarie for some more stuff from Bunnings for my jobs on the bus!
Drove south on the Pacific Highway and stopped for the night in a rest area. It sure is a different experience traveling without Bec and one I know I don't want to do again - It is very difficult not having her with me - especially when I'm not with other people - I miss her heaps!
Bec's Diary
Intended on having a lie in this morning but woke as Mum was leaving for work. Had a fairly lazy morning which was needed as it's been such a hectic week and my body is not used to it anymore.
Headed into town and went into work. Was so overwhelmed at all the friendly faces and everyone wanting to have their little piece of me. I had about 50 unfinished conversations because just as I'd get chatting to someone, someone else would appear wanting to know how it's all going.
Went to lunch with my good friend Minx and had a fantastic time catching up on all the gossip and goings on. I've missed Minx so much as I was used to seeing her everyday and telling her everything. She is going so well and is really happy which is just so great to see.
Said my goodbyes to Minx and then headed over to the GIO building to see my friend Shane. Shane lives just around the corner from Mums so we grabbed a coffee and Shane drove me home. It was so nice to chat and catch up on things with him as it’s been a long time since we've had the opportunity to do it in person. Shane and I used to work together and we have a special friendship - I'm certainly not short of brothers but Shane is like my unofficial 4th bro.
Enjoyed a lazy arvo with Pete and Dad before getting ready to go out for a night on the town with my friends Shaz and Hevs and Tash. Hevs left RAC this week and starts a new job with Home Building Society next week so this is her leaving do. Congrats on the new job Hevs!!
Had an awesome night catching up with our dear friends, having a few drinks and dancing the night away. I really felt for Mike tonight as he would so have loved to be here and we'd all have loved to have him too - especially me as I'm really missing him. Shaz and Hevs mates are all heaps of fun so it was a fantastic night.

I had also decided to do a couple of other jobs on the bus before Bec got back and the rest area I was in had a nice area for me to work in so I set to making a fishing rod tube for the front of the bus, I had a length of conduit cut yesterday and painted it this morning then made some brackets and fitted the finished product to the bulbar.
My second job for the day was fitting a reversing camera, I had intended to fit this before we left but time got the better of me so I didn't do it - I now remember why! It took ages as I had to take the ceiling out of the back section of the bus over the bed to fit it! Big job but now it's in I can reverse a bit more safely!
Decided to continue a little further south towards Newcastle and stayed the night in another rest area on the Pacific Highway.
Bec's Diary
Pulled up great this morning which is good considering I have a 9.30 dentist appointment!
Went to Canning Vale and picked up some fabric for Mikes latest creation in the bus before heading back home to pick up Mum and Sue as we are going to Pete and Donna's block to see how the house is getting along. When we left I think only the site works had been done.
Well threes actually a house and a massive shed there now which is a huge change. The house isn't yet finished but you can see that it's going to be a lovely big home and that the kids will have a fantastic life here. Ed at 7 is already hooning around with his sister in an petrol go kart (anyone would think it’s a sports car that Krissi is driving in as she looks so smug with herself and her beautiful blonde locks are just blowing in the wind) Ed also drives Pete's tractor and took me for a ride on the back through the orange and avocado orchids. I thought his driving was a bit rusty or unperfected at first as we bunny hopped down the drive way but it wasn't until Aunty Bec had a go at driving it herself that I realized that that's just the way it takes off. It was so funny to be taught to drive a tractor by my 7 year old nephew - he had it all down pat and knew the names for the clutch etc - god help us he'll be driving a car next!!
Said good bye - only until tonight as Mums cooking everyone a roast and then we headed home for lunch before visiting Tamara (Sue's eldest daughter).
Tamara and her boy friend Paul have built a new home and it is fantastic. It's just like a display home and is perfect in every way, they have got all the colors, furniture and everything just right - remind me to get a few interior designing tips from her when I get home and we start working on our new home in Success!
After dropping Mum and Sue home I headed up to Dawn and Jeff's to pick up a few goodies like some more jeans to take back to NSW.
I then headed over to Wendy's for a beer (mine being Ginger). Wendy is as well as ever and delighted to see me. It was great to see her and in true Wendy fashion she told me she would have been 'bloody pissed off' if I didn't drop in. God love her!
Whilst I was off gallivanting and Dad was at bowls poor Mum prepared a roast for 10. Another great night catching up with Pete and co as well as Sue and Danny.

After finalizing the reversing camera and getting the angle of view correct I continued south along the highway to a place called Karuah where there is a nice rest area by the river that I can hopefully spend the afternoon at.
Found the rest area after a bit of searching it's a great spot that's right near the river and even closer to the local RSL club! Perfect place for a lonely night! My afternoon's entertainment was provided by an old couple in their car and caravan.
They had come down the road looking for a caravan park and on the way into the road they had figured they were in the wrong spot and tried to do a U turn around a corner but had misjudged the turn and managed to end up jack knifed around the corner with the caravan hanging into a ditch sitting on its chassis! It took a 5.5 tonne crane and a lot of cussing and cursing to get it out - luckily there was very little damage to the van but I think the poor guy's ego was suffering!
After all that work a beer was defiantly in order so after a shower I headed up to the RSL for a few beers, the club was fairly quite so I headed back to the bus for dinner and some TV!
Bec's Diary
Another early morning - I can't seem to sleep in here! Woke to a sloppy text from Mike telling me he's missing me heaps and can't wait until I'm home. Me too baby.
Had a fry up before packing my bags and heading down to say good bye to Tash, Sue and Danny.
Headed up to Roley to drop the car off and have a cuppa with Tony and Bev. They're both doing really well and it was nice to see them and catch up on the goings on in their life.
It was then off to the sea container to drop off some bits that we haven't been using in the us i.e. an Iron! Thank god I took dad as it was really hard to open!
Then it was time to pick my good friend Nadine up who just so happened to be in town for a party this weekend from Albany. We picked her up and then headed to Redcliff to check into our hotel near the airport. Said my goodbyes to mum and dad but not for long as their coming to QLD in August to have a fortnight on the road with us.
Deanie and I spent the afternoon catching up on 6 months of goss before having our very own slumber party complete with BB, pizza and chockie.

After a morning walk with the dogs around the river and a chat to an old guy living in his XD Falcon Station wagon I left Karuah and headed for Newcastle.
As we didn't know where we would be staying tonight after Bec's return I did a bit of driving around Newcastle along the beaches to the south hoping to find a area we could free camp for the night but unfortunately all I could find were beach side car parks that had No Camping signs so I headed for the local Bunnings as I wanted a lock for the Fishing rod holder on the bus.
Had some lunch and headed for the Newcastle foreshore and on the way found a nice spot we can stay at tonight right at the top of town which is a designated rest area so I marked it in the GPS and headed to the foreshore car park to wait for Bec.
After what seemed like an eternity Bec arrived and we were re-united.
Bec's Diary
Awoke early after a restless night in a hard bed! Oh well I'll be in my own bed tonight.
I caught the bus into town to see my doctor while Deanie picked up her friends car from near the hotel. Deanie then swung through town and picked me up and then we where off to one of my favorite shops - the hairdressing supplies shop. After Deanie brought pretty much the whole shop we had a late breakie and then went back to the hotel for showers etc.
My flight was at 1 and Deanie's wasn't until 6 so she dropped me off before heading back to her friends. It's been so nice catching up.
Boarded my flight and I was on my way home to Mike. Five hours later I landed at Sydney and was greeted by a short man holding a sign that read 'Rebecca Mullins', and no it wasn't Mike. It was now time for the second leg of my trip, a bus transfer to Newcastle.
As we approached Newcastle it was apparent that the flooding had caused much devastation and most homes had their carpet sitting on the front verge. Finally after a whole day of travel Mike and I were reunited at approx 11pm. It was so great to see him and naturally he was over the moon to see me. He updated me on all his little projects that had kept him busy for the last week before we headed off up the road to where we would camp for the night. Very pleased to be home with my hubby!!
12th June
After a great night sleep we awoke to some workmen repairing the telephone line after the recent storms.
Mike then suggested we go see the standard Pasha Bulker as he was keen to get some more photos in the day light. Bec felt a bit funny about taking photos of such a tragic event but when we arrived down by the bay and saw approx 100,000 please doing the same thing her guilt passed pretty quickly. It was an awesome sight to see such a massive ship beached in such a small bay with waves crashing all the way up to its decks. It seems that this has put Newcastle on the map as there where people coming from far and wide to see it.
Stocked up our supplies in town before moving on to Karua Rest Area, a place that Mike has discovered only a few days prior. It was a lovely little spot on the river. Even here the effects of the recent storms are still evident with a large yacht still sitting on the bottom of the river. The dogs enjoyed their arvo running around the reserve.
We were joined later in the afternoon by a couple in a small motorhome - they also had an adorable puppy!
13th June
A late start at Karua.
Traveled to Taree and explored the town. Not much to see here and as we knew we were heading to see Nanny and Bobop we decided to continue north in the hope of finding something interesting to see and also to cover some more ground.
Ended up staying at Moorland North rest area just short of Port Macquarie.
14th June
Awoke and left for Port Macquarie, unfortunately the weather is still bad and its making it hard to get out off the bus and explore.
Mike's chasing a new fishing rod now that he has his new fishing rod holder so it was off to Amart All Sports to find one. A little while later we emerged with a nice 12' beach rod.
It was then time to visit the foreshore before finding a camp spot for the night. As there are no designated camps we used our imitative and search the outskirts of town. It wasn't long before we found a great spot at the town's lighthouse.
We had a little walk around the lighthouse during the short break of rain and then set in for the night.
