Dec 1st - 14th
1st December
Poor Nath was up at 4am this morning so that he was down in Dongara for a 5am start on the boat. The rest of us emerged at about 8am and enjoyed breakfast and pottering around the house and getting some washing done etc.
Mid morning Rach took us to see the HMAS Sydney memorial. It’s a great spot full of history with amazing elevated views of Gero and its harbour.
We then went and did a bit of shopping before returning home for lunch. After an enjoyable lunch we went to the local museum, which was very interesting. Rach also showed us the local beaches and Mike got a few great shots.
Another great bbq was enjoyed this evening and the boys both got an early night as Mikes going with Nath to work tomorrow cray fishing.
Bec and Rach enjoyed watching a few episodes of Friends tonight before falling into bed.
2nd December
The boys were up and gone bright and early this morning whilst the girls rose at a more reasonable hour. Whilst the boys were out collecting the days catch us girls went for a nice walk along the beach front into town and back. Then enjoyed a nice relaxing day around the house.
Mike had an excellent day out on the boat (after a slightly uneasy start!) but he emerged from the cabin before the first cray pots were pulled onbaord, it was a great experiance to watch the boys in action pulling and re-setting the cray pots.
The skipper and deckhand Nath works with are both really nice guys and they made it a really fun day. Didnt get to hide any of the catch in my bag but we may have sampled a few crays on board!
Returned to Gero for a few beers and a BBQ with some Kangaroo Italian Sausage, Bec really enjoyed the sausage until she was told what it was made from that is!

3rd December
As Rach is working today we went and enjoyed all the Gero has to offer on our won. We took a drive along the beaches stopping at a few places for a closer look.
Had lunch overlooking the Marina.
Headed back to Nath and Rach’s house to enjoy our final dinner with them before we set of tomorrow on the last leg of our trip.
4th December
Packed up the bus did some shopping for gifts to leave for Nath and Rach and set of towards Perth.
Our camps book showed several free camps on the way south so thought we would check these out. Stopped in Dongara and took a walk out on the town jetty and looked around Port Denison. Didn’t find anywhere to free camp so decided to continue driving south.
We bypassed Jurien Bay as we have been and stayed there on our "Short" Honeymoon immediately after our wedding so went to Cervantes. Again enjoyed the beach and jetties but couldn’t find a camp site. Our book showed there were some free camps a little further on so we decided to keep driving though unfortunately we were disappointed again!
So after travelling for nearly 30000kms we decided much to Mikes disappointment as he wanted just one more night on the road, we elected to continue on to Perth and finish our trip.
Arrived at Bec’s Mum and Dad’s house much to their delight! Enjoyed and amazing night of drinking and eating before retiring to a normal bed inside a normal house..................
And you thought it was going to end there!
Well after 30000kms and the worst thing that happened to the bus was a small chip in the windscreen well Mike decided to end the trip with a bang....literally.
Many years ago Bec's Mum and Dad's house had a septic system which has now been disconnected though still sits lurking underground waiting to consume wayward motor homes!
As we knew we would be staying a few days/weeks as our tenants were still in our house we thought it would be best to park our motor home in the back garden, well as we drove past the back shed the back wheels (the heaviest part of the bus due to the motor being in the back) broke the top of the leech drain part of the old septic system and the bus dropped into what was now a huge hole in the ground!
After trying everything we could think of to get the bus out including filling the hole, trying to jack it out, swearing, and cursing we figured it was time to call the insurance company for some help! They advised us to get a crane to left it out so that’s what we did! A 100 tonne capacity crane arrived and extended its boom over the fence, it was attached to the buses back wheels and it lifted it out!
So that now really is the end! We had a fantastic time the trip taught us many things, we met some great people (and some annoying ones), we laughed, we cried, we got sunburned, we got rained on, we got blown away, we enjoyed still balmy nights, we watched sunsets over the water, we watched sunsets over the desrt lands, we saw beaches, we saw mountains, we caught fish, we chased rabbits, we enjoyed 6 star luxury, we made damper in a camp fire, we broke the law, we saw amazing sights, we saw some less than amazing sights, we found amazing off beat places, we enjoyed huge tourist attractions, we made life long mates, we met people we'd rather forget, we met people who shoked us, we met people who will stay in our hearts forever, we partied with friends, we partied with people we'd just met, we enjoyed a drink together on the beach, but most of all we enjoyed each other’s company and fell more deeply in love.
Living in 18m2 sounds like it would be difficult but it truly was one of the greatest experiences of our lives and we would do it again tomorrow!
